Reported Con-Artist Quick-Changed Clerk out of $700 in Murfreesboro

(Murfreesboro, TN) The old, yet often successful quick-change scam has been around for years and has once again hit Murfreesboro. Most recently, alleged con-artists preyed on an unsuspecting employee at Party City on Old Fort Parkway.

For those who may not be familiar with the unscrupulous act, the mastermind behind the scam often looks for inexperienced cashiers. Once the mark is found, they flawlessly work to confuse the clerk by asking for different sums of money back, sometimes using large bills. However, they don’t always use large bills while performing their sneaky tricks…

That was Public Information Officer Larry Flowers with the Murfreesboro Police Department.

In describing what happened at Party City, Flowers told WGNS…

He said detectives suspect the quick-change scam involved two conmen who only spent $300, yet received $1,000 worth of gift cards. In other words, the men got-away with $700, according to police.

scam that took place at Party City in Murfreesboro on April 14, 2022…
