(MURFREESBORO)  Since 9/11 falls on a Sunday this year, the memorial tribute honoring those who made the supreme sacrifice will take place at 9:00 o'clock Friday morning (9/9/2022) in front of the Twin Tower's I-beam at the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, 940 New Salem Highway.

The saying "WE WILL NEVER FORGET" is heard loud 21-years later.

This is the 21st gathering of our community around the 9/11 memorial at the sheriff’s office.

Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh said, "We also honor those who made the supreme sacrifice while protecting our country--including the military who continue defending the U.S.A.”

Tennessee Army National Guard Col. Mark Tyndall will be the keynote speaker. The hour-long event is free to the public and includes a time of flag waving and sharing of patriotism.

The Riverdale Women’s Chorale will sing patriotic songs and trumpeters from MTSU’s School of Music will play “Taps.” Plus, the Smyrna Fire Department, Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services, Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department and the Sheriff’s Office honor guards will participate. It will conclude with a 21-gun salute and echo TAPS.

WGNS' Bart Walker will serve as emcee of the event.

When the tragic event ended in New York City, the Pentagon, and a Pennsylvania farm field--2,977 died, more than 25,000 were injured and 19 hijackers committed murder-suicide. (2,753 were killed at the World Trade Center in NYC, 184 at the Pentagon in Washington, and 40 in the rural Pennsylvania countryside)

The 9/11 Memorial at the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office includes a 3,000-pound I-beam from Tower 1 of the World Trade Center.

Again, the public is encouraged to attend the event that begins at 9:00AM this Friday morning (9/9/2022) at the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, 940 New Salem Highway.
