(MURFREESBORO) Rutherford County Area Habitat for Humanity fifth annual “Build It Forward” will take place from 3:00 to 5:00 o’clock Saturday afternoon (10/15/2022) in the parking lot at First Community Bank, 262 Robert Rose Drive in Murfreesboro. Special partners for the event include Ann Hoke & Associates, SEC Inc. and Primis Bank.

Panel Build

With a team of 100 community volunteers, all of the walls for the Habitat house will be built in only 5-hours. When they are finished, the volunteers will stand the walls up and create a Habitat house right there in the parking lot.

They will be able to walk through the house with Future Homeowner Amy and sign the walls with words of encouragement.

A group photo will be taken when the home is completed around 2:00PM that afternoon.

After the Panel Build, the finished walls will be moved to Habitat’s Legacy Pointe subdivision for Future Homeowner Amy, who has struggled with personal issues for years and vowed to turn her life around.

Amy admits, “I did not want to play the role of victim anymore. I was ready to take responsibility for my choices and do the work.”

Thankfully, she was referred to the Habitat Homeownership Program and has committed to completing 30 weeks of Financial Literacy and Homeowner Education along with 300 hours of sweat equity to qualify for a low-interest mortgage.

Habitat Future Homeowners earn 40-80 per cent of the Area Medium Income (AMI) and cannot qualify for a conventional loan.

Don't Miss COOKIN' TO BUILD

The 15th Annual Habitat COOKIN' TO BUILD will be around the hitoric Rutherford County courthouse from 11:00AM to 1:00PM on Saturday, November 5, 2022. Local businesses, civic groups, churches and other non-profits will compete with each other to see who has the most delicious chili, stew or soup.

In addition, you can creatively paint your own bowl at the Pottery Place in the Avenue of Murfreesboro. The $30 fee includes all you can eat, as well as the bowl painting. Keep in mind, the deadline to paint your own bowl is prior to Oct. 15, 2022.
