(MURFREESBORO, TN) False threats of a school shooting in Rutherford County spread on social media and from student-to-student on Wednesday night. Reports indicate the threats were not credible, according to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday.

After WGNS received calls from concerned parents, we spoke to county school’s spokesperson James Evans who further confirmed there was no credibility in the threats. Evans told WGNS NEWS on Thursday, “There are no credible threats against any school, although we are working with the sheriff’s office to thoroughly investigate a social media post that was made last night [Wednesday night] that referenced Rockvale Middle and Rockvale High.”

The Rutherford County Schools sent a message to the parents of Rockvale Middle and High School students on Thursday morning stated, “Overnight, some threatening posts were made on social media and those posts mention Rockvale Middle and Rockvale High. These types of posts are typically pranks and an attempt to disrupt the school day, but we always take them seriously and our law enforcement partners have been investigating throughout the night.”
