(Murfreesboro, TN) More news on the development of One East College in Murfreesboro along East College at North Church Streets. City Council-member Jamie Averwater told WGNS News on Wednesday... The two and a half acre site that was once home to First United Methodist Church in downtown Murfreesboro, is being transformed into a mixed-use structure that will include approximately 220 residential units, office space, retail stores, restaurants, and a parking garage.
Architects have designed the future building around the original church bell-tower to keep the historically significant piece of history alive. Reports indicate plans to build a hotel within the structure have been scrapped at this point, but that doesn't mean a hotel won't be built in the downtown area. A future boutique hotel could possibly be built on property behind or near the former Murfreesboro Police Headquarters, which is where another mixed-use development has been proposed.
Originally, the plan was to complete construction of One East College by the end of 2023. However, plans were temporarily stalled after COVID impacted Middle Tennessee. Today, an exact timeline of when One East College will be complete has not been publicly announced.
