(MURFREESBORO) The Rutherford County Sheriffs Office told NewsRadio WGNS that a telephone scam is being attempted and it ties with a male who claims that he is with the sheriffs office.
A Rutherford County resident received a call from someone posing as a Rutherford County Sheriff’s sergeant in the civil process division. The caller falsely tried to get $1,700 from the resident but the resident refused and notified the Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh warns, "Deputies DO NOT call residents and ask for cash, gift cards or green dot cards. Please do not return the phone call. Simply hang up!"
