Smyrna, TN - WGNS has another SCAM report to bring your way. This time, an unknown subject is calling area residents claiming to work for the Smyrna Police Department. The caller requests money from the potential victims they call. Smyrna Police report, “We do not call and request money or personal information from anyone over the phone.”
On the caller ID, the caller’s phone number shows up as 615-459-6644, which is the phone number to the Smyrna Police Department. Of course, it’s not really someone from the Smyrna Police Department calling area residents, the scammer is spoofing the phone number of the police department. Police suggest if you receive a call from 615-459-6644 to simply hang up and call the number back for verification or assistance.
Again, Smyrna Police suggest you hang up on such fictitious callers because police will not be phoning residents to request money or to seek personal information.
DISCLAIMER: All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The arrest records or information about an arrest that are published or reported on NewsRadio WGNS and www.WGNSradio.com are not an indication of guilt or evidence that an actual crime has been committed.
