Murfreesboro, TN - FRIDAY UPDATE: Middle Tennessee Electric had to shutdown Butler Drive on Friday to repair a utility pole that was involved in a tractor trailer truck accident on Thursday. Apparently, the overturned big rig caused thousands of dollars in damages to not only a utility pole, but also a railroad crossing light. The Butler Driver closure on Friday (March 24, 2023) was scheduled to be from 7AM to 4PM.
A section of Butler Drive in Murfreesboro had to be closed after a Thursday afternoon accident. Police tell WGNS News that a semitruck was hauling a full load of Pillsbury products when the driver overcorrected while rounding a curve. That overcorrection led to the truck and trailer overturning, spilling the freshly made products all over the roadway and down an embankment.
The incident occured as the truck was heading down Butler Drive, which runs between South Church Street and Joe B. Jackson Parkway. Thankfully, there were no serious injuries reported with the mishap, but police did confirm the driver of truck received a citation for failure to operate with due care.
At the scene of the wreck, pallets of Yoplait Yogurt and cans of Pillsbury biscuit dough were in the trailer that overturned on Thursday. The food was scattered near the railroad crossing, which is near the Warrior Drive / South Church Street intersection.
The road was shut down around 12:30 on Thursday afternoon while the MPD investigated the accident. As the crash was being investigated, a tow truck worked to upright the big rig while workers gathered the spilled goods. Evidently, it took several hours to clear the scene of wreck debris, yogurt and biscuit dough. A HAZMAT crew was also dispatched to the area to clean up diesel that leaked out of the overturned truck.
