J. Percy Priest Lake - On Saturday, a young woman who was kayaking on J. Percy Priest Lake was hit by a boater and killed. The lifeless body of the 24-year-old Rutherford County resident was recovered from a depth of 54-feet by a team of emergency workers using an underwater remote operated camera.
TWRA Agents, along with the Nashville Fire Department and the Nashville Office of Emergency Management responded to the lake on Saturday morning to search for the victim who has been identified as 24-year-old Jaidha Lindsay of Murfreesboro. She was reportedly struck by a motorboat while kayaking near the Hamilton Creek Recreation Area in neighboring Davidson County.
Preliminary reports from authorities suggest that at least three people were in the motorboat, which was described as a fishing boat, that struck Lindsay who was in a kayak. All three of those occupants have been interviewed, but no charges have been filed. Reportedly, Lindsay was not wearing a life jacket and as of Monday afternoon, investigators have not said if she was killed by the impact of the oncoming vessel or if she was knocked unconscious and then drowned.
Lindsay was a teacher at the Aventura Community School in Nashville. The school is a free / public K through 8th grade bilingual (English/ Spanish) school. A GoFundMe has since been set-up for Jaidha Capii Lindsay, who was a teacher. Money raised will be used to pay for her funeral service and burial.
