La Vergne, TN - A La Vergne home was severely damaged due to a large structure fire. The blaze occurred on Wednesday, May 3rd along Forest Ridge Drive.

According to authorities, emergency calls started coming in at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon. The calls from neighbors suggested there was a house fire and they could see thick black smoke billowing from the backside of the home. The incident involved a house in the in the 400 block of Forest Ridge Drive. Forest Ridge sits near Percy Priest Lake and is directly off Stones River Road.

The La Vergne Fire & Rescue Department responded and upon their arrival found a structure that was engulfed in flames - - but the structure was not a home, at least at first it was not a house fire. Evidently, a small building behind a house caught fire and the blaze was intense enough to damage the home that sat in the front of the property.

Emergency workers reported the flames had spread to the backside of the home causing extensive damage. But what caused the intense blaze to the small building behind the house remains under investigation. Thankfully, La Vergne Firefighters were able to gain control of the fire and extinguish the flames before they could damage any other properties. No fire personnel were injured and no one was home when the fire broke out.

After tackling the blaze, LaVergne Fire and Rescue thanked the La Vergne Police Department and Box 100 for their assistance as well as the Smyrna Fire Department for providing mutual aid. WGNS was told that the Red Cross is assisting and prepared to provide aid to the residents as needed.
