MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – WGNS has more details on a murder that took place in a normally peaceful neighborhood - a murder that remains under investigation. Police say the suspect allegedly murdered his wife just 6-days after his 80th birthday. The murder took place in the couples 2-story home located on Swanson Drive, which is off Rucker Lane near Highway 96 (Franklin Road) in Murfreesboro.

Rutherford County District Attorney Jennings Jones explains what police discovered when they arrived at the home on March 16th...

Police located 80-year-old Phokam Saysourinho a few hours after they found his wife in the garage of their home where she was pronounced deceased. Officers took Saysourinho into custody after a traffic stop along Gateway Boulevard. He was booked into the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center during the early morning hours of March 17th, the morning after the death of his 68-year-old wife, Thatsaphone Saysourinho.

The husband is facing First-degree murder charges for allegedly stabbing his wife to death. According to the Sheriff's Office, he has remained behind bars since his arrest. Documents from the Rutherford County Courts show that at least six hearings in General Sessions Court have been rescheduled. The case will have to move to the Circuit Courts before a trial can be scheduled, which likely means evidence will be heard by a Grand Jury in the near future.
