Over $1,000 Worth of Candles Allegedly Stolen from a Murfreesboro Retailer

MURFREESBORO, TN – Color coordinated and ready for a shopping expedition, a man and a woman entered Bath and Body Works off Medical Center Parkway in the Avenue and began browsing the lovely scents of lotions, soaps and candles. Evidently, the smells were so enticing, they couldn’t help themselves and picked out a few goodies. Their shopping basket quickly filled to the rim, holding what one store employee calculated to equal over $1,000 worth of scented candles.

Apparently the man, wearing an all-black outfit accented with a red beanie, and the woman wearing all gray, decided their hand selected goods were much too expensive for their wallets to spare. Instead of paying for the basket of goodies or leaving the merchandise behind, they walked out of the store with the basket and goods in hand. Once in the parking lot of The Avenue, they jumped into a gray Dodge Avenger, that coincidently matched the woman’s all-gray outfit. The two sped away before a worker could write down their license plate number.

A store manager told police the couple may be the same suspects tied to a prior incident that occurred at a Nashville store. In that case, a similar looking duo were arrested after a theft. Murfreesboro Police were told they could have access to the in-store security camera footage that is available from the Davidson County retailer to match to the video collected at the Murfreesboro store.

So far, an arrest has not been made and the case is still open. In the Murfreesboro Police report, there was one identifying detail about the car the two left the Murfreesboro store in that could be helpful for other store operators in Rutherford County. The older gray in color Dodge Avenger the couple were driving had damage to the passenger side door. But again, an arrest has not been made. On a brighter note, because the two got away with more than $1,000 in candles, they will have enough wax and wicks to light-up a small mansion... if they have trouble paying their electric bill. Plus, it will make the mansion smell great!
