Probation Revoked for Rutherford County Man – Ordered to Serve Remainder of Sentence in Prison

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN – A registered sex offender from Rutherford County who was on probation, was ordered to go back to prison to serve the remainder of his imposed sentence behind bars. The subject has since filed an appeal. Evidently, Garen Wright had his probation revoked after violating the rules that were imposed on him by the courts... multiple times.

Wright appears to have a long-time history of running into legal issues. Between 2001 and 2022, Wright has accumulated 100-different charges during multiple arrests. Of the 100-charges, 15-were dismissed in court and 35 equaled Guilty Plea's or Convictions. But, this most recent appeal focuses on the past 6-years, as opposed to the past 22-years.

In 2017, Mr. Wright plead guilty to one count of violating the sex offender registry for the second time since being convicted. As a result, he was sentenced to four years of split confinement. That sentence equaled one year in custody and three years on probation.

A probation violation warrant was filed in 2018, alleging Wright failed to report to his probation officer after being released from jail on bond. Three months after the warrant was issued, the man was arrested on theft, evading arrest, resisting arrest and failure to appear charges.

In 2019, the trial courts found that Wright had again violated his probation and shortly after the 2019 case, the defendant plead guilty to violating the sex offender registry and was accused of tampering with his GPS monitoring device. Mr. Wright was also accused of violating his probation when authorities allegedly located a small bag of Ecstasy pills in his residence.

In 2022, court records show that Wright was again accused of violating his probation after being arrested for aggravated domestic assault, especially aggravated kidnapping and possessing a weapon while being a convicted felon.

The long list of allegations against Wright led to a probation hearing and the eventual revocation of his probation. As a result of his probation being revoked, he was ordered to serve the remainder of previous sentences in prison. The 40-year-old man then filed an appeal - - arguing the trial court abused its discretion by not considering an alternative to simply placing him in prison for the full term of his sentence. On Wednesday, June 7, 2023, paperwork filed by the Clerk of the Appellate Court showed that his appeal was officially denied.

Because of charges that originated in Rutherford County, and the multiple cases of violating his probation, Wright has to spend another 16-years behind bars. State records show that Wright will be 56-years-old upon his release.
