UPDATE: MURFREESBORO, TN – Murfreesboro Police have identified the suspects that were named in the Tuesday night incident involving a vehicle that was pulled over and later fled from authorities, striking one MPD officer in the process.

The police officer was injured during the traffic stop on Old Fort Parkway at Chaffin Place Tuesday evening, June 20. The driver that struck the officer reportedly fled from police after hitting the officer when leaving the stop. The car traveled to the area of I-24 and HWY 99, where one of three passengers is believed to have switched seats with the driver. The three others, one female and two males, reportedly took-off on foot running towards the Murfreesboro Greenway along Barfield Road, between HWY 99 and Veterans Pkwy.

The injured officer was assisting another officer and a recruit on a traffic stop when the incident occurred around 8:30, Tuesday night. Police reported the suspect was driving a green 1997 Honda Civic. The officer who was struck was standing on the passenger side of the vehicle when the motorist drove away.

After the MPD officer was hit, he was transported to the hospital to be medically evaluated. He was alert and talking. Officials say the officer was later released from the hospital and as of Wednesday morning, was a little sore but is doing well.

The driver and passengers have all been identified. While their names have not been released, they were described as 2-females and 2-males. Charges are pending and the investigation continues, according to MPD Public Information Officer Larry Flowers.
