Rutherford County Deputy Michael Bennett pulled onto the interstate and saw a young man walking in the opposite direction. He turned on his blue lights and made a U-turn while cutting through the median. Deputy Bennett said the man was running in the westbound lanes and sprinting toward the deputy. Bennett calmed the runner down and waited for an RCEMS ambulance to arrive. The non-talkative man was taken to Ascension St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital for a check-up. Physicians determined that he was autistic and almost non-verbal, but was saved because of the caring actions of RCSO Deputy Bennett who said, "In patrol we see a lot of bad situations, it's good to see something turn positive". THANK YOU, Rutherford County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Bennett, for continuing to make a difference.
