In the Nashville Metro Statistical Area, which includes Rutherford County, the age range of DUI offenders may surprise you. According to the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, between July 1st of 2022 and June 30th of this year, over 50% of drivers caught driving while under the influence were between the ages of 20 and 34. Making up the second largest group of DUI offenders in Middle Tennessee were 35 to 49-year-old's, with a 27.7% arrest rate, out of all DUI arrests. 14% of DUI drivers were 50 or older in the Middle Tennessee area. Another surprising statistic, a little more than 5% of those arrested for DUI were 19 or younger in the Nashville area.
The numbers in Knoxville are slightly different, showing a little over -7% fewer DUI drivers between the ages of 20 and 34. However, there are +5.5% more DUI drivers between the ages of 35 and 49, and +4.5% more DUI drivers over the age of 50, when compared to the Nashville area. The number of DUI arrests involving 15 to 19-year-old's in Knoxville was -1.5% less than what was reported in the Nashville area.
In West Tennessee, Memphis had the lowest number of DUI drivers between the ages of 20 and 34, with -9.5% fewer than Nashville and -2% less than Knoxville. Both Knoxville and Memphis had nearly the same number of DUI drivers over the age of 50 at 19%, which is nearly +5% more than Nashville. 31% of DUI offenders were 35 to 49-years-old in Memphis, which is +5% more than the Nashville area and -1.4% less than Knoxville. 19.22% of DUI offenders in Memphis were over the age of 50, and that number is +4.8% higher than the Nashville area and nearly equal to Knoxville. The percentage of DUI arrests in the age bracket of 15 to 19-years-old was nearly tied in Nashville and Memphis, both making up a little more than +5% of all DUI offenders.
