Rutherford County, TN – A large number of Rutherford County officials will come together this Sunday and hold a flag raising ceremony. The special event will officially mark the opening of the new Kittrell Public Health & Safety building at 8055 Woodbury Pike in the Readyville / Kittrell Communities.

Rutherford County first broke ground on the Kittrell Health & Public Safety Building in March of 2022. At that time, it was the second of six public safety buildings to be positioned in rural areas of the County. The structures were made possible through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Coronavirus Recovery Funds, which were issued by the federal government in 2021.

There was only one fire station in operation when the Rutherford County Fire Rescue Department was established on July 1 of 2010. In the years that followed, Chief Gary Farley worked to add two more stations.

Today, there are 5 Rutherford County fire stations in service, and that includes the new Kittrell / Readyville location. Other stations are on Barfield Road, Fortress Boulevard in the Blackman area, Highway 99 in Rockvale, and a location in Walter Hill.

Former Mayor Bill Ketron said, “These buildings will serve to bring health and other life safety services to the residents in those areas, and will provide a continuous presence of first responders and other public safety/health personnel.”

This historic event will be held between 2 and 4 PM on Sunday, September 24, 2023.

At this Sunday's ceremony, some of the guests planning to be in attendance include Rutherford County Mayor Joe Carr, Rutherford County Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh, Rutherford County Commissioner Pettus Read, Rutherford County Commissioner Romel McMurry, Rutherford County Public Health Director Byron Cumbie, Rutherford County Public Safety Director Chris Clark, Rutherford County Fire Chief Larry Farley, and Rutherford County EMS Director Brian Gaither.
