RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - On Friday, September 22nd, Read To Succeed celebrated their 19th annual “Reading in the Schools Day” throughout Rutherford County. 35 schools participated, reaching more than 28,000 students in Rutherford County schools, Murfreesboro City schools, private schools, and preschools on this special day set aside to celebrate literacy.

This annual effort to connect the community with the classroom encourages volunteer readers to read aloud to an enthusiastic group of students. This year over 2,800 parents, grandparents, elected officials, athletes, and community leaders made it a priority to model the love of reading by sharing a good book.

According to Jolene Radnoti, Executive Director of Read To Succeed, Reading in the Schools Day was a great success this year.  “This year elementary students enjoyed being read to by community members all over Rutherford County. Schools did an outstanding job embracing this special day. Some schools had faculty and students dress up as book characters and one school even did a book parade! We appreciate all the volunteer readers who took the time to share their love of reading with students in Rutherford County and Murfreesboro City Schools. We would also like to thank school principals, coordinators, and faculty for making this day special.”
