UPDATED - RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. - Nic Woodley, the Director of Player Personnel in the MTSU athletic department has been arrested on an indecent exposure charge in Murfreesboro. The 29-year-old was taken into custody on Sunday afternoon after allegedly exposing himself to a young female at the Target store on Old Fort Parkway.
According to MPD Public Information Officer Larry Flowers, the subject was accused of “...exposing himself to a teenager at Target over the weekend." Murfreesboro Police responded to the call and learned Woodley allegedly complimented the young girl on her outfit and then moved a shopping basket to the side, exposing his genitals.
Authorities say the preliminary investigation shows Woodley allegedly exposed himself to the juvenile teen on Saturday, October 14th and later returned to Target on Sunday, October 15th. The investigation further revealed Woodley frequented the store over the past five days.
When police spotted Woodley inside the rear section of the store, they made efforts to escort him to the front. During this attempt Woodley repeatedly made efforts to stop walking and attempted to go down aisles and away from the front of the store, according to a police report. That same report showed his efforts to go down aisles caused officers to lose their grip on him. When police managed to regain their grip they continued escorting him through the store, but with one officer on either side of him.
The two officers eventually made their way out of Target and to an awaiting patrol car. Because the young victim told officers Woodley utilized his phone during the encounter, police seized his phone noting that other pieces of evidence could be present which could provide evidence "...for previous unreported incidents..."
After Woodley was arrested, he was told not to return to the Murfreesboro Target store and has been "trespassed" from all Rutherford County Target stores. The incident report shows that during a brief police interview, Woodley did not answer any questions.
On Monday afternoon Flowers told WGNS, "Detectives are urging anyone who believes themselves to be a possible victim of Woodley to contact MPD Criminal Investigations Division Detective Ben Sagrera at 629-201-5633 or Crime Stoppers of Rutherford County at 615-893-STOP (7867)."
The suspect was taken into custody on Sunday afternoon and booked into the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center around 5-o'clock Sunday evening. He was released on a $3,000 bond shortly after 7-o'clock Sunday night. He is scheduled to appear in a Rutherford County General Sessions courtroom on November 30, 2023.
Woodley was under MTSU football in the athletic department, has been suspended from his duties at the university. The Alabama native has been with MTSU for five seasons and this year marked his first year as the programs Director of Player Personnel.
Murfreesboro Police confirmed that at this point, the investigation is on-going.
