MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — The fun will come alive with trick-or-treaters in downtown Murfreesboro at the end of the month. This year, Halloween falls on Tuesday, October 31 and parents are encouraged to bring their pint sized ghosts and goblins to the Historic Rutherford County Square. The festivities will begin at 3 and end at 5 PM.
Main Street Murfreesboro reports that locally-owned small businesses will have bags and bags of candy to hand out. Just like in years past, handfuls of candy will be given to children while supplies last. WGNS was told that some stores may be open late with special sales and events. Murfreesboro Police will block traffic from coming onto the square during the event as crowds are expected to be large, which is why it is always good to arrive early.
Main Street Murfreesboro, a nonprofit, 501c3 has been focused on economic development, design, and promotions of the historic downtown business district for the past 38 years. The organization hosts several downtown events to bring tourism and community residents to the historic downtown business district.

Goblins, ghouls and ghosts (oh my!) will find treats galore at Middle Tennessee State University’s free Halloween happenings later this month.
Greek Row treats - MTSU’s annual Trick or Treat on Greek Row will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, in front of the sorority houses at the corner of Rutherford Boulevard and Alumni Drive.
“This is one of the most popular events in MTSU’s fraternity and sorority community, and we are excited to see all the costumes our Murfreesboro neighbors come up with as they join our students for some safe Halloween fun,” said Hannah Leyhew, director of Fraternity and Sorority Life at MTSU.
Children ages 12 and younger are welcome and encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes. There will be a variety of games for children to play at the houses and lots of candy to grab.
Guests are asked to park in the lot across the street. There is no charge for parking and there is a crosswalk where families can safely access campus by foot.
The event is sponsored by the College Panhellenic Council with support from MTSU’s sororities and fraternities. The council is MTSU’s largest women’s organization, comprised of six sorority chapters under the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life in the Center for Student Involvement and Leadership.

Treats and Hoops - The Lady Raiders Basketball Team will face off against the University of the Cumberlands Lady Patriots at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, in Murphy Center, 2650 Middle Tennessee Blvd.
To kick off the season, the team is hosting Treats and Hoops trick or treat event starting at 5:30 p.m., just before the game.
“Since our game is taking place just before Halloween, we thought it would be perfect to let kids dress up in their favorite costumes and trick or treat in the historic Murphy Center,” said Chelsea Floyd, associate athletic director of marketing, fan engagement and licensing.
Local businesses, student organizations and MTSU departments will set up tables along the concourse in Murphy Center to hand out candy.
“We’re super excited to tip off the women’s basketball season with a fantastic community engagement event for our little Blue Raiders,” Floyd said.
Admission to the game and trick-or-treating is complimentary to costumed fans age 17 and younger. For those who need to purchase tickets, visit https://am.ticketmaster.com/mtsu/buy#/.
