Odd moments unfold on a regular basis for police throughout the state. One such event took place about 30-minutes north of Rutherford County in nearby Mt. Juliet at one of their more popular shopping destinations that is directly off of I-40.
On Thursday night, Mt. Juliet Police officers patrolling the Providence MarketPlace, which is similar to Murfreesboro's The Avenue, spotted a man running with an overly filled grocery cart. Police obviously knew the subject was in a hurry to get home or that he may have been involved in a crime – either way, the situation looked fishy.
As it turned out, the suspect was leaving the Kroger grocery store after a plentiful shopping expedition for groceries. In fact, police say they indeed confirmed the adult male had just committed the theft.
In the commotion of pushing a noisy grocery cart, the suspect was apparently unable to hear police yelling for him to stop. Officers say he ran and ran failing to halt, so officers quickly gave chase. Needless to say, the pursuit didn't last long and officers made an apprehension. After the man was placed in handcuffs, officers and Kroger workers started adding up the heisted groceries. The store was able to recover more than $600 in stolen merchandise.
When being questioned, police say the individual failed to identify himself. This will likely equal another charge on top of the theft. Mt. Juliet Police said in a statement, “We are grateful for our dedicated officers, always with a watchful eye on our community.”
