UPDATE: Man Accidently Shoots Himself After Alleged Robbery Attempt at Murfreesboro Apartment

NEW UPDATE: MURFREESBORO, TN - The man who is accused of luring a pizza delivery driver to a vacant apartment in Murfreesboro on Thursday, Nov. 9, has been arrested and charged with aggravated attempted robbery. 23-Year-old Noah Dixon is also facing tampering with evidence charges.

The preliminary investigation shows Dixon ordered a pizza from Papa John’s claiming to be in an apartment at the Crossing at Hazelwood Apartment Homes on Hazelwood Dr. The apartment building is vacant.

When the female pizza delivery driver arrived with the order at 1:20 p.m., she was approached by Dixon who pointed a gun and demanded money from her, according to police. The driver told him she didn’t have any money.

Dixon left and went to the College Pointe Apartments on Brown St. When he heard police responding to the attempted robbery, he gave the gun to his 21-year-old friend. The gun accidentally discharged in the 21-year-old’s pocket, striking him in the stomach. He was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center by a LifeFlight helicopter. and treated for his injuries. He’s in stable condition.

The investigation is still active.

Dixon is being held at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center.

UPDATED - (MURFREESBORO) Murfreesboro Detectives continue to investigate two separate incidents that took place around the same time on Thursday afternoon (11/9/2023).

The first incident involved the attempted robbery of a Papa John's pizza delivery driver at the Crossings at Hazelwood apartment complex, 1350 Hazelwood Street. In the hold-up, a man approached the delivery driver and demanded money, according to police. During the investigation, it was found that the apartment unit where the pizza was supposed to be delivered was vacant.

WGNS also reported a man was found shot behind a different apartment complex shortly after the robbery incident.

Now, in what was first thought to be an unrelated incident, detectives are looking into the possibility that a man who was found shot as being a possible suspect in the robbery of the pizza delivery driver. Detectives are also looking at another male as a second suspect in the attempted robbery of the delivery driver, according to police.

The MPD told WGNS in an email that detectives believe the man found shot after the robbery, was likely shot by a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Public Information Officer Larry Flowers said, “The preliminary investigation determines, the shooting victim suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound.” The subject was found behind a building at College Pointe Apartments (915 Brown Drive), which is less than a half-mile away from the site of the robbery. Both incidents remain under investigation.
