(SMYRNA, TN) It's always a time for helping others and a free giving-spirit in Smyrna. That was more obvious than ever with the 22nd Annual Smyrna Fire Department's Food Drive.  The 2023 event collected 25,000 items for the food drive, and since the inaugural event, over a half a million items have helped needy persons through cold winters.

Smyrna Fire Departmet's Lieutenant Burt Wilson said, "We are grateful to the parents and staff at Smyrna Elementary, led by Principal Vanessa Ritter; Stewartscreek Elementary, led by Principal Tina Turner; Stewartsboro Elementary, led by Principal Dr. Larissa Westerfield; Cedargrove Elementary, led by Principal Paige Jorge, and Rocky Fork Elementary led by Principal Scott Bolden. Your collective efforts have been instrumental in the food drives s success."

In addition, Walmart Manager Sedric Mansell and the entire Walmart staff helped make the collection a success.

Wilson noted, "Your collaboration has significantly contributed to the smooth operation and success of the food drive, showcasing the power of community-business partnerships in fostering positive change."

He concluded, "I would like to thank Chief Bill Culbertson for his leadership and providing the necessary tools to ensure the success of the food drive. In addition, I would like to thank the entire Smyrna Fire Department for all of their hard work and tireless dedication in helping with the food drive. I am truly honored to work alongside each of you.

Once again, thank you for your unwavering support. The impact of your contributions goes far beyond the numbers; it reaches into the lives of individuals and families who, thanks to your support, will have access to nourishing meals during challenging times. Together, we are making a meaningful impact on the lives of those less fortunate."

A special thanks to the Smyrna Fire Department and to everyone who made the 2023 food drive a success!
