WASHINGTON, D.C. – Ahead of the March for Life rally in Washington, U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) and Representative Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) today re-introduced the Woman’s Right To Know Act, to protect the health of pregnant women and unborn children by providing adequate medical information for informed consent before abortions.
“The Woman’s Right to Know Act protects the sanctity of life for women and children across the nation,” said Senator Blackburn. “This bill would set long overdue medical standards that most states have already implemented so that women across the nation are provided access to vital information by their medical provider.”
“Protecting life has always, and will always, be a top priority in our country, and the Woman’s Right To Know Act does just that,” said Representative McClain. “This great bill ensures that women receive the critical information they need regarding their own health and their child’s health, and it cements a standard that’s already widely accepted across the nation. I am proud to lead this legislation alongside Senator Blackburn and I am excited to see it move forward in this Congress.”
U.S. Senators Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.), James Lankford (R-Okla.), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Mike Braun (R-Ind.), and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) are co-sponsors.
Susan B. Anthony List, Family Research Council, and Americans United For Life have endorsed this legislation.
The Woman’s Right to Know Act sets reasonable medical requirements for physicians to meet in order to protect both the life of the mother and the child before an abortion can be performed:
- Abortion providers must explain all the medical risks associated with an abortion procedure;
- Abortion providers must explain the probable gestational age and development features of the unborn child at the time the abortion is to be performed; and
- Abortion providers must present this information at least 24 hours in advance of an abortion procedure.
