Rockvale, TN - The tranquility of the Rockvale community was disrupted by a single-vehicle accident involving a 71-year-old man this past week. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the mishap occurred when the elderly driver, identified as Gerard T. Payvis, was traveling north on Versailles Road.

The incident was reportedly near the interchange of Versailles and Whitus Road, where Payvis lost control of his 2003 Chevy S-10 pickup, veering off the roadway. The pickup collided with three mailboxes before heading back onto the asphalt and then driving over the roadway and into a wooded area. The vehicle eventually overturned after exiting the opposite side of the road, coming to a final resting point right-side up.

Details from the accident report, released to WGNS on Wednesday evening, revealed that Payvis was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Unfortunately, this contributed to the Unionville man sustaining significant injuries in the single vehicle collision. WGNS is continuing to follow any updates that could be released by the THP.
