Rutherford County's School Resource Officer program was one of the first in the nation. SRO's Sgt. Dustin Cox and Sgt. John Acton talk about current activities and news of SRO in schools. It was started in 1993 under Sheriff Truman Jones.

- This is SCHOOL SAFETY DRILL WEEK at all Rutherford County schools. This discussion includes that some RC schools (regular and alternative schools) are testing the new software that detects "a shooter is in the school".
- SPECIAL NEEDS FUN FAIR (Fri., March 22, 2024) is at the Ag Center (John R. Rice Blvd.). Elementary students will be there 9:00-11:30AM...Middle School and High School students are there 11:15AM-1:30PM. The event includes face painting, a petting zoo, inflatabgles, prizes, games and more. A total of 816 local students are signed-up to attend. - Jr. Deputy Camp (May 28-30, 2024) for current 5th graders who are moving up to the 6th grade--there is one camp in Murfreesboro as well as another in Smyrna. This camp include a RAD Kids course, the youngsters learn about law enforcement and much more.
- SPECIAL NEEDS PROM is Friday, April 5, 2024 at the Smyrna Town Center. It begins at 10:30AM, includes lunch, and goes until 1:30PM.
