MURFREESBORO, TN - A man who was once on the TBI 10 Most Wanted list now sits behind bars in Rutherford County and awaits an upcoming court date. Jamar Marks, 23, was arrested in Colorado over 2 years ago after allegedly going on the run as Murfreesboro Police began investigating a shooting incident that occurred outside of the Habibi Hookah Café, which has since shutdown. The shooting left one dead on the night of the crime, and 4-injured.
In February of 2022, a total of 5-people were shot in the parking lot of the restaurant on Middle Tennessee Boulevard. Of the 5 hit by gunfire, one reportedly died at the scene and 4 others were transported to area hospitals. Killed on the night of the incident was 35-year-old Brandon Anderson, according to court filings by lead Detective Cody Thomas. Shortly after the murder, Jamar Adam Marks was named as the primary suspect by the Murfreesboro Police. Department. However, Marks could not be located.
When authorities could not immediately find Marks, police began working with both the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) and the United States Marshals Office. Within 5 days of the murder, Marks was tracked down and taken into custody by the Weld County Colorado Sheriff’s Office, about 45 miles north of Denver in Evans, Colorado.
Marks, who has a previous felony record with the State of Tennessee, is now facing a charge of first-degree murder, one charge of attempted first-degree murder, three charges of aggravated assault, one charge of reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, tampering with evidence, and employing a firearm with the intent to go armed. Currently, the suspect has a court hearing that is near. The next scheduled court appearance for Marks will be next month, before Circuit Court Judge James Turner on May 9, 2024.
In court Mr. Marks, a former resident of an apartment complex on Northfield Boulevard, will be represented by attorney Michael S. Rexroat, while the State will be represented by attorney Trevor Lynch. WGNS will continue to follow this case as it inches closer and closer to a trial date.
