Rutherford County, TN - On Tuesday, April 23, from 9 am to 3 pm, the Rutherford County Area Habitat for Humanity will host a significant volunteer effort at its Legacy Pointe subdivision in Murfreesboro, TN. This event marks another step forward in providing affordable housing solutions for families within the community. Several future homeowners participating in the Habitat program are diligently working towards their goal of homeownership. These individuals are completing 50 hours of Financial Literacy and Homeowner Education courses while also contributing 300 hours of partner equity toward the construction of their new homes.

The focus of this volunteer initiative will be on advancing Habitat houses in the Phase Two area of the Legacy Pointe neighborhood. The project is part of Habitat for Humanity's ongoing commitment to empower families by providing them with the opportunity to achieve homeownership through education, sweat equity, and community support.

Among those participating is Brittany, a future homeowner who will be actively involved in the construction of her own residence alongside volunteers from Groundworks and AFS Foundation and Waterproofing. Notably, the walls for Brittany's house were erected by over 100 volunteers from three Rotary Clubs in Rutherford County, with additional support from volunteers who work at General Mills in Murfreesboro.

Brittany is set to close on her house and move in by May, which is literally next month! Her home will mark the completion of House #194 for the Rutherford County Habitat.

Many of the future Habitat homeowners have faced limited housing options and struggle to qualify for traditional mortgages. The burden of high rental costs often consumes a significant portion of their monthly income, leaving little room for other necessities. These struggles make it extremely hard to set aside a portion of their earnings for a down-payment on a home or a deposit on an apartment. Through the Habitat program, families are provided with the opportunity to pay no more than 30% of their monthly income on housing, thereby building wealth equity and securing a stable future for themselves and their loved ones.

The Rutherford County Area Habitat for Humanity Legacy Pointe Build event on April 23 will bring together construction experts and Habitat future homeowners. Interviews and photo opportunities will be available onsite, offering a glimpse into the impactful work being done to transform lives and strengthen communities.
