A total of six persons were wounded in gunfire and suspect, Erik Dewaun Williams, a 24-year-old who is currently under a community corrections sentence from a conviction in Rutherford County, has found himself back in custody after being re-arrested in Nashville on charges of felony reckless endangerment and unlawful gun possession by a convicted felon. This arrest comes after an incident involving gunfire near the Soho Lounge on Bell Road, where Williams was apprehended by Metro Detectives this past Sunday morning.
According to reports, a group of Specialized Investigations Division detectives were in the vicinity of Bell Road on a special assignment when they received a 911 call regarding a confrontation involving individuals with firearms. Upon arriving at the scene, officers observed Williams holding a pistol, which he reportedly discarded upon noticing law enforcement presence. Despite attempting to flee, Williams was swiftly apprehended, and the weapon was recovered.
The gunfire incident resulted in injuries to six individuals, all of whom were taken to Vanderbilt Hospital for treatment. Among the wounded were three individuals from Columbia, Tennessee, who arrived in the same vehicle, and three others from Columbia and Spring Hill, Tennessee, who were in a separate vehicle that crashed at the intersection of Bell Road and Murfreesboro Pike.
Williams, who has prior convictions in Rutherford County (2018) and Sumner County (2021), remains in custody at the downtown Nashville detention center on a $300,000 bond. Notably, at the time of his arrest, he was out on bond for a pending 2022 grand jury indictment on similar charges. Additionally, he was under community corrections supervision as a result of a prior conviction in Rutherford County on the same charge that he was accused of this past Sunday... reckless endangerment.
In looking at Williams' legal history from Rutherford County, he was arrested in 2018 on charges by the Murfreesboro Police Department for attempted first-degree murder and reckless endangerment. While the attempted murder charge was dismissed in 2019, he pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment that same year.
As per Tennessee Department of Correction documents, Williams' community corrections sentence is slated to conclude after a total of 9 years. However, if he is convicted of another offense during this period, he could face incarceration for the remainder of his sentence.
As of Wednesday afternoon, Williams remains behind bars at the downtown Nashville detention center. WGNS will continue to follow this story.
