MURFREESBORO, TN - A prayer vigil is scheduled for this upcoming Friday night to honor the memory of 11-year-old Yousuf Ayesh, who tragically passed away on Tuesday morning after bravely battling brain cancer for the past six months. His deteriorating condition was reported last week by the Murfreesboro Muslim Youth organization via social media.
Facing this sudden decline, doctors at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt Medical Center were forced to place Ayesh on life support. Subsequent testing on Monday revealed that his brain activity had ceased, prompting difficult discussions among family members.
A funeral was held on Tuesday evening, and condolences, known as Azza in Muslim tradition, will be held Wednesday (05/15/24) night at the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro. This gathering provides an opportunity for the public to offer prayers and kind words to the grieving family between 7:45 and 10 PM, according to an open invitation announced on Tuesday.
Yousuf Hasan Ayesh, a fifth-grade student at Black Fox Elementary School in Murfreesboro, had endeared himself to many in his community, prompting family, friends, and classmates to gather at his school this coming Friday night to pay tribute to the beloved child. The candlelight vigil, scheduled for 7 PM, will serve as a poignant remembrance of Ayesh and a demonstration of love and support for his grieving family."
UPDATED: The Murfreesboro Muslim Youth organized a fundraiser for the Ayesh family on GoFundMe. As of Wednesday evening (05/15/2024) at 5:20 PM, nearly 500 people had donated $13,000 over the original goal amount of $5,000 to equal $18,183.
