RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN -The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) is taking proactive measures by sponsoring a sobriety checkpoint aimed at finding intoxicated drivers. The initiative, scheduled to take place on South Rutherford Boulevard in Murfreesboro, will involve the Rutherford County Traffic Safety Task Force.

The checkpoint is set to operate from 11 p.m. on Friday, May 31, to 1 a.m. on Saturday, June 1. During this time, THP officers, along with members of the task force, will conduct thorough checks to identify drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Sobriety checkpoints are a long-time tool in the toolbox of law enforcement that focuses on reducing the number of impaired driving incidents, decrease fatal accidents and enhance public safety. By removing impaired drivers from the roads, the THP aims to save lives.

Residents and drivers in the area are advised to be aware of the upcoming checkpoint and to make appropriate plans to hitch a ride with a sober driver. In other words, drive sober, travel safely and legally.

This collaborative effort between the THP and the Rutherford County Traffic Safety Task Force promotes road safety. The checkpoint is part of a broader initiative to reduce traffic-related injuries and fatalities across the state.
