WILSON COUNTY, TN – Electric vehicles, otherwise known as “EV's,” are gaining more attention as their miles of travel between charges grows longer, charging stations become faster, and their 0 to 60 times decrease even more. Listen to our complete 2 min. and 50 sec. interview with Amy Byers py clicking the PLAY button below the photo at the top of this article.

This Saturday, June 8th, the Middle Tennessee Electric EV Car Club will hold their annual event. Amy Byers, the Public Relations Coordinator for MTE, told WGNS News... Again, the 2024 Supercharged Cruise-In will be held in Lebanon, TN.

For auto enthusiasts, converting a gas-powered car into an electric vehicle (EV) has become somewhat easier with the availability of conversion kits for certain makes and models. At the same time, more and more people are removing traditional gas engines from their project cars and replacing them with electric motors. This process involves creating motor mounts, custom wiring harnesses, multi-point battery cases, and other modifications. The goal is to build an electric vehicle that is often very quick off the line. Locally, Brandon Wagoner of the MTE EV Car Club, has been working to complete his Austin-Healey Sprite conversion, as noted by Byers... Scroll down to watch a video that highlights Wagoner's project (picture below, video at bottom of article).

In addition to having a wide assortment of EV's on display at the event this Saturday, which is expected to include a few examples of gas to electric conversions, you'll also be able to sit behind the wheel of several different electric vehicle models...

For future EV owners, more charging stations are expected, but mapping out charging locations before making the leap to ownership may be a good idea... In the world of electric automobiles, there are three different types of charging stations for EV's. Those three choices include Level 1, 2 and 3, with 3 being the fastest and 2 listed as the North American Standard. The Level 1 chargers are the ones that are typically found in homes.

As for the trio of charging applications, Level 1 chargers are plugged into regular 120-volt outlets, Level 2 go into a 240-volt outlet and Level 3 are classified as the DC Fast Chargers.
