MURFREESBORO, TN - Twelve new correctional deputies began an 11-week training cycle this week at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. Their primary duties will be supervising and maintaining the safety, security, and welfare of inmates, ensuring a secure environment for all.

Training Lt. David Hutsell detailed the comprehensive training program the new deputies will undergo. It starts with a three-week new hire orientation class, followed by seven weeks of hands-on training in the detention center alongside veteran deputies. Additionally, these deputies will attend the mandatory Tennessee Corrections Institute’s correctional officer’s basic training class, which consists of 48 hours of intensive instruction.

General Sessions Court Judge Ben Bennett administered the oath of office to the first group of new correctional deputies at the Judicial Center. This group includes Suzann Stanford, James Bess, Wyatt Vonspreckelsen, Kaitlyn Ross, and FeTeshjia Russell (pictured above this article). Later, General Sessions Court Judge Trey McFarlin administered the oath to the second group, which includes Sebastian Alvarez, Dylan Ayala, Charia Martin, Steven Reasonover, Tyler Al-Greene, Abby Jackson, and Vontrell Hardick.

The new correctional deputies are stepping into important roles, while overseeing the safety and security of the detention center.

These roles provide emergency response services to the community and as Emergency Communications Specialist, these persons are responsible for receiving emergency calls, dispatching appropriate emergency personnel, and ensuring the safety and security of Murfreesboro residents.
