RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - As the temperature soars in Rutherford County, residents are urged to be cautious of the dangerously high heat index readings, expected to surpass the 100-degree mark. This intense heat poses significant risks, especially to the elderly, handicapped, housebound individuals, and those on fixed incomes. Community members are encouraged to check on these vulnerable populations frequently to ensure their safety and well-being during this extreme weather.

Dwight Ogleton is once again stepping up to help those in need through his program, Cool Aid. Established over 20 years ago, Cool Aid provides fans and air conditioners to individuals who cannot afford them, helping them stay cool during the scorching summer months. Ogleton, along with a team of dedicated volunteers, is committed to ensuring that everyone has access to the necessary means to combat the heat. Ogleton said...

"If you know an elderly person living alone, check on them daily to make certain everything is OK," Ogleton advised. He emphasized the importance of even a simple fan, stating that the movement of air can be the difference between suffering from heat-related illnesses and staying safe.

For those in need of a fan or air conditioner, Ogleton can be reached at 615-487-9670. The Cool Aid program is currently experiencing a high demand, and Ogleton is also in need of additional fans and window air conditioning units to distribute to those in need. Call 615-487-9670 if you would like to provide an AC or fan, or if you would like to volunteer to help install a fan or AC.

As the community braces for the upcoming heatwave, the efforts of individuals like Ogleton and the support of neighbors can make a significant impact. Ensuring that everyone has the resources to stay cool is not just a matter of comfort, but a critical aspect of public health and safety during these dangerously hot days.
