Murfreesboro, TN – UPDATE:  There are additional details from the fatal vehicle verses bicycle accident that happened late last week near the Walmart store on South Rutherford Boulevard. The bicyclist involved in the fatal incident on July 18 has been identified as 30-year-old Thomas Hunter Conley of Murfreesboro.

On Monday morning (07/22/24), Murfreesboro Police told WGNS, “The preliminary investigation shows Conley was traveling with one hand on the handlebars and carrying something in the other hand.  Conley fell off the bike and was struck by a Buick Enclave, driven by Isaiah Isom.”

You may recall after the incident, the MPD’s Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT) began an investigation into what they noted was a hit-and-run fatal collision between a vehicle and a bicyclist. The tragic incident took place around 5:30 in the evening. Murfreesboro Police said the driver of the vehicle that was believed to have struck the man on the bike was identified as 41-year-old Isaiah Isom of Murfreesboro. The suspect was driving a 2011 Buick Enclave at the time of the collision. Police reported the man was driving a 2011 Buick Enclave and that he allegedly fled the scene of the crash.

Minutes later, two women drove that Buick Enclave that was reportedly involved in the collision back to the scene of the fatal crash. Once there, one of the women falsely claimed to have been the driver of the SUV, according to investigators who determined the story was a complete fabrication. When detectives went to Isom to discuss the situation at his home, he initially denied being the driver but later admitted to his involvement.

Mr. Isom was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a crash that involves death or serious bodily injury and driving on a revoked license due to a previous DUI, as reported in a press release from the MPD.

Authorities are asking for the public to come forward in hopes of decoding what occurred this past Thursday. Police ask, “If you witnessed the fatal crash, please contact Officer Corey Smelser by email 0973@murfreesborotn.gov.” - See prior news article HERE.
