SMYRNA - The Town of Smyrna is conducting a special census, suspecting their numbers are much higher than the federal count conducted in 2020.

WGNS' Bryan Barrett has more:

VERBATIM: Since the state of Tennessee provides revenue to municipalities based on their population, the town is paying to conduct a special census in hope of getting more state dollars.

Officials say state share revenue received from the state helps to fund the Police and Fire Departments, build parks, repair roads and public works.

No matter if you own a home or rent, counting every resident is essential. All that is asked on the census is the first and last name of everyone residing in the household. The information is confidential and by federal law is not permitted to be given to courts of law, credit companies, solicitors, police, immigration or the Internal Revenue Service.

Smyrna residents can complete the online form on the town's website or mail back the postage paid mailer when you receive it. Town personnel will be counting all submissions until February 25, 2025.
