MURFREESBORO, TN - The annual hummingbird festival will return to Murfreesboro later this month at Barfield Crescent Park… That was assistant parks and rec. director Rachel Singer, who told WGNS the event will be on August 31, 2024.
This festival is also part of an ongoing study to get a better understanding of things like the two migration periods for the bird. Researcher Cyndi Routledge will have her datasheets with her when she visits the Wilderness Station in the park on the last Saturday of this month… In a search for resources, it is not unusual for the hummingbird to fly to places like Mexico and other countries within Central America where they spend their winter.
Thanks to the visiting researcher, those in attendance will leave more knowledgeable about the hummingbird than when they arrived…
Hundreds of hummingbirds can routinely be found at Barfield Crescent Park this time of year, filling up on nectar and insects before making their way south. Park officials report, “At the Hummingbird Festival, these amazing creatures are celebrated and can be experienced firsthand. There will be children's activities, guest speakers, hummingbird merchandise and so much more!”
The event is free and open to all ages.
