MURFRESSBORO, Tenn. – WGNS has an update on the fatal hit and run incident involving a pedestrian this past Sunday (August 18, 2024). According to Murfreesboro Police, License Plate Reader (LPR) technology has played a crucial role in identifying the vehicle believed to have hit and killed 49-year-old Caterina Hill on N. Thompson Lane.

Hill was discovered at approximately 6:00 a.m. on Sunday morning (August 18th, 2024) in front of 845 North Thompson Lane, near the intersection of Medical Center Parkway. Following her death, Murfreesboro Police Department Crime Data Analysts, Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT) investigators and Criminal Investigation Division detectives reviewed LPR camera footage all day on Monday and eventually located the vehicle and driver that may have hit the female.

Preliminary findings suggest that Hill was walking southbound on North Thompson Lane when she was struck by the suspect vehicle that was traveling in the same direction in the outside lane. After Hill was struck, the driver fled the scene and failed to render aid or call for help. Investigators say after she was hit, hours likely passed before a passing motorist finally discovered her body and called dispatch. Once authorities and paramedics arrived, it was too late and Hill was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Now, the case is being reviewed by the Rutherford County District Attorney General’s Office. MPD Public Information Officer Larry Flowers confirmed on Friday morning that charges could be filed.

The incident remains under investigation and Murfreesboro Police are asking for the public's assistance. If you know any details about the case, you are urged to contact police at 615-893-1311.
