Murfreesboro’s ATM Houdini Strikes Again

MURFREESBORO, TN - Murfreesboro Police Detectives are on the lookout for a man who has apparently mastered the art of making cash vanish—specifically, a cool $5,460 from an ATM. This act of financial sorcery took place at the Murfreesboro City Limits Liquor & Wine retailer on NW Broad Street in Murfreesboro.

The alleged money magician struck on August 28, 2024, at the liquor store conveniently located across the street from Roselawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens—because if you’re going to steal, might as well keep it classy and close to the dearly departed. The unidentified suspect reportedly used some kind of device to drain the ATM of its contents, leaving it as empty as the promises of your ex.

After pocketing the cash, this modern-day Robin Hood, who lacks the tale of giving funds to the poor—was seen speeding away in a white compact SUV, which is basically the go-to vehicle for anyone looking to blend in with soccer moms and petty thieves. Interestingly, a similar heist occurred in Coffee County, where the same type of vehicle was spotted. Clearly, our suspect has a penchant for small, fuel-efficient getaways.

Another cash caper got away with an ATM theft that was reported earlier this year in Murfreesboro. The previous crime occurred on May 11, when an unidentified man paid a visit to the ATM at Meadows Corner BP on Manson Pike. Somehow, the suspect electronically finagled the machine to spew out a whopping $9,560. It may have been a lucky day for the ATM user, but not for the bank that was hit by a high-tech hustle. See previous report HERE.

CAN YOU HELP MPD? If you happen to recognize this person of interest—maybe he’s your neighbor, or perhaps the guy who always seems to have extra cash at the poker table—please contact MPD Detective Shan Harris at 629-201-5536. Because nothing says "community spirit" like helping the police catch a guy who reportedly took his ATM withdrawals a little too far.

DISCLAIMER: All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The arrest records or information about an arrest that are published or reported on NewsRadio WGNS and www.WGNSradio.com are not an indication of guilt or evidence that an actual crime has been committed.
