Step into History: Creepy Night Tours of Oakland's Mansion Set for October

Sep 05, 2024 at 06:11 pm by WGNS News

MURFREESBORO, TN – Oakland's Mansion, once at the heart of a 1,500-acre plantation, will offer guided nighttime tours on Thursday, October 24. The mansion, with its rich history, holds an eclectic and diverse narrative due to its involvement in numerous trials and tribulations throughout the years.

Executive Director James Manning informed WGNS that Connor Moss, a member of Oakland’s staff, will guide visitors through the home during next month’s tour…

For over three generations, enslaved families lived, worked, and died on the plantation, which included 19 dwellings for laborers. However, all activity on the property came to a halt in 1862 during the Civil War, when troops battled on the mansion’s front lawn... The skirmish severely impacted the Maney family that once owned the plantation, as crops and outbuildings were destroyed, leaving them financially devastated. A war claim filed with the federal government brought no compensation, adding to their struggles.
