Murfreesboro, TN – Vince Lombardi said, “Leaders aren’t born, they are made”! When you look at graduates from 40-years of LEADERSHIP RUTHERFORD CLASSES, that statement takes-on even more meaning.
In 1985, Leadership Rutherford began as a 501(C)(3) program that’s under the wings of the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce.
Members of that first class still recall singing songs and telling stories, as the old school bus chugged its way up Monteagle Mountain for a retreat to remember at the DuBose Conference Center. Now, 39 classes later, the enthusiasm, love for this community, and desire to help--has grown more than imaginable.
Chief Operating Officer Stephanie Brackman (photo above) explained, “Since its inception, Leadership Rutherford has been dedicated to empowering individuals with the skills, knowledge and network needed to make a significant impact in Rutherford County. Through a rich history of innovative programming, our organization has shaped thousands of leaders who have gone on to drive positive change in our community.”
Each year, the current class is divided into project groups and each is assigned a project with a local non-profit. From developing the scope of work to implementing a plan of action, the community impact project is an important component of Leadership Rutherford that has lasting effects on our community.
In addition, the classes learn the history of Rutherford County, along with changes that have led to what now makes this one of the fastest growing and most successful areas of the nation.

In fact, over 1,340 professionals have graduated from Leadership Rutherford - providing a wide network for alumni to expand their personal network.
Leadership Rutherford is designed to sustain and supplement the high quality of local leadership which continues to be the key ingredient in making Rutherford County the outstanding community that it is today.
In 1995 YOUTH Leadership Rutherford began. It was created by the ADULT class of 1993-94. Youth Leadership Rutherford is a personal development program designed to educate and enhance the quality of leadership skills in high school seniors while promoting community awareness.
With almost 30-years of YOUTH LEADERSHIP, a high percentage of those graduates apply to be a part of the ADULT LEADERSHIP classes as they enter the working world. Those students become super-charged members of the organization!
As the organization celebrates it’s 40th Anniversary, Brackman asked alumni of both the adult program and the youth program to help LEADERSHIP RUTHERFORD reach its fundraising goal of $25,000.
