Murfreesboro, TN – Oakland High School and Oakland Middle School were placed on lockdown Thursday morning as a precautionary measure due to a police situation at a nearby residence. Rutherford County Schools Chief Communications Director James Evans confirmed that the decision to lock down the schools was made as a standard procedure in response to police activity in the area.

Evans reassured parents in a message sent out during the incident, stating, “It does NOT involve the schools. This is only a precaution, which is standard procedure when there is police activity nearby.” He emphasized that the safety of students remains a top priority.

The alert was communicated to parents to keep them informed about the increased police presence around the schools. In his message, Evans stated, “Police were called to the scene of a home near Oakland High School, and we placed the Oakland schools on a precautionary hold during this time. The situation does not involve any of our schools or students.”

The Murfreesboro Police Department (MPD) was responding to the situation at the home, but further details were not immediately available. Evans assured parents that they would be kept updated as more information is released by the MPD.

WGNS News will provide updates as soon as additional information becomes available regarding Thursday morning's events.
