Discipline has been handed down following the fight that broke out during the recent Oakland-Blackman football game. Both schools' athletic programs placed on probation for the remainder of this season and will remain on probation for the 2025-26 season.

Both schools face a $1,000 fine for the first year of probation, followed by a $500 fine in the second year. Despite the penalties, both teams remain eligible for the TSSAA state football playoffs.

Rutherford County Schools Chief Communications Officer James Evans says both Oakland and Blackman have also imposed internal discipline on the student-athletes involved in the altercation.

The fight began after Oakland blocked a field goal attempt as time expired September 20th, securing a narrow 13-12 victory. As celebrations began, at least one Oakland player ran toward Blackman’s student section, prompting a confrontation.
