MURFREESBORO – With the departure of Dick Palmer, MTSU Director of Athletics Chris Massaro is excited to announce that Joe Fisher, who has more than four decades of broadcasting experience with Nashville media and college sports, has been named the new voice of the women's basketball program.

"We are thrilled to have an accomplished and respected Blue Raider get behind the microphone for our Top 25 women's basketball program," said Massaro. "Joe's experience and expertise will further enhance our championship brand as we embark on another exciting season."

"I'm truly excited and grateful for the opportunity to be courtside and be the broadcast voice for a quality program and an outstanding university," said Fisher

The veteran broadcaster and play-by-play announcer made his return to local radio on Nashville Sports Radio, where he served as a play-by-play announcer for the station's Midstate Checkdown High School Football Game of the Week, starting along with analyst Greg Pogue.

"We are excited that Joe is coming on board with us," said Head Coach Rick Insell. "Joe is a Middle Tennessee guy. He called games for Vanderbilt for a number of years. He's a family man, and we are excited to welcome him into one of the top programs in the country."

In 2021, Fisher acted as the news and communications director at Tennessee Tech, where he oversaw the news function of the university to external and internal audiences through media relations, video and radio work to promote the university and its strategic initiatives.

Prior to his stint in Cookeville, Fisher served as the director of broadcasting for Vanderbilt Athletics, has extensive experience in covering local, regional and national news and events. His distinctive voice and personality led him to become well-known to audience members around the state.

Fisher was named Tennessee Co-Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association in 2013. The Regional Emmy winner is also a 2018 inductee of the Metro Nashville Public Schools Sports Hall of Fame.

"I know this position will be in good hands moving forward," said former play-by-play announcer Dick Palmer. "I have known Joe for many years. He is an outstanding broadcaster. He did games in the Southeastern Conference for many years, and the best thing is, he will fit right in as a Blue Raider."

Before joining Vanderbilt Athletics, he served as the weekend sports anchor and reporter for WKRN-TV and WSMV-TV in Nashville. Fisher's public relations background includes experience as an account executive at Dye, Van Mol and Lawrence Public Relations in Nashville.
