Suspect Fatally Injured in Early Morning Incident on I-24

Rutherford County Sheriff’s deputies were conducting a traffic stop of a wanted suspect about 1:40 a.m. Wednesday on Interstate 24 near the Joe B. Jackson exit near Murfreesboro.

During the investigation, gunshots were fired and the suspect was critically injured.

Sheriff’s deputies and Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services paramedics immediately rendered medical aid to the suspect.

He was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation responded to the scene and are conducting an investigation at the request of 16th Judicial District Attorney Jennings Jones.
