RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - We continue our coverage of how Rutherford County residents are assisting in disaster-stricken areas across East Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and the Carolinas - Assistance that is being funneled through a variety of non-profit organizations.
One of the many organizations that deployed to East Tennessee and North Carolina was the Salvation Army on September 29, 2024. This past week, we spoke with Regan Love, who shared that during their first 10 days in the hurricane-stricken area, the group served over 18,000 meals… Love noted that some of the workers and volunteers came from Salvation Army locations in Murfreesboro and Nashville...
While the non-profit continues to provide aid to those affected by the storms in areas like East Tennessee, it is also maintaining its ongoing mission work throughout Rutherford County.
Among these local efforts is the Angel Tree Program, which provides Christmas gifts to less fortunate children. Parents of these children must register in advance if they wish for their child to be included as an angel on the tree, though the registration window is brief and currently closed… Without the Angel Tree Program, some children in the community might not have gifts to open on Christmas Day. Residents who wish to adopt an angel can do so, with the assurance that the gift will go to a child in Rutherford County...
Another major fundraiser is the Red Kettle Drive. As Love explained, most of the funds raised through this initiative stay within the local community to support those in need… The Red Kettle fundraising provides essential help to individuals and families who call Rutherford County home.”
