Rutherford County, TN – A man is facing multiple felony charges following a devastating accident that occurred late last week in the 6300 block of Couchville Pike, resulting in the death of a 2-year-old boy and leaving two adults seriously injured.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) confirmed that the fatal crash unfolded when a boom attached to a westbound logging truck swung into the oncoming lane of traffic. The boom on the big rig, a 2013 Freightliner GPI driven by 61-year-old Christopher B. Holloway, was not properly secured, which caused it to swing loose and strike the front of a 2014 Nissan Versa traveling eastbound.

Upon impact, the driver of the Nissan lost control, and the vehicle eventually came to a rest in a nearby private driveway. Tragically, the 2-year-old boy, a passenger in the vehicle, succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision.

The Nissan's driver, 21-year-old Navaeh L. Payne, and passenger, 25-year-old Deqwuan White, both sustained serious injuries. They were transported to an area hospital, where they remain under medical care. Their current conditions have not been released.

Authorities have filed felony charges against Holloway, including one count of Vehicular Homicide, two counts of Aggravated Assault, and one count of Tampering with Evidence. A hearing has been scheduled for December 13, 2024, at 8:32 a.m., with Judge Ben Bennett presiding over the case.

Suspect Christopher Holloway is currently free on bond.
