Retail Therapy Gone Wrong: Man Snags $1,700 in High-End Hiking Gear at Murfreesboro Store

MURFREESBORO, TN - Murfreesboro detectives are on the lookout for a bold shoplifter who, it appears, wanted a high-end wardrobe upgrade without the hassle of a price tag. Authorities say a man walked out of Mountain High Outfitters at The Avenue on October 18th with $1,700 worth of new clothing. That's right, nearly two grand of outdoor clothing was stolen on a Friday in the 'Boro—perhaps the culprit was preparing for a weekend on the Appalachian Trail, minus any form of payment.

According to Murfreesboro Police, the mystery fashion aficionado is a thin, white male with a knack for blending in, right down to his standard-issue black T-shirt and matching black ballcap. Sporting a hairstyle that could be described as "fluffy," he also accessorized with bracelets on both wrists—one white (or off-white, let’s not get picky) on the left and a tan band on the right. Not quite your average accessory choice, but we are simply relaying what the picture released by the MPD shows.

Security cameras captured the man wearing tan pants and generally dressing as if he were modeling for the word "chillax," which means to chill and relax, take it easy, become calm, to be calm... you get the idea. Police are now hoping this distinctive outfit combo will ring a bell for someone, somewhere. If the ballcap, bracelets, or fluffy hair seem familiar, Murfreesboro Police urge you to reach out and identify him—before another fashionable shopping spree gets underway in Rutherford County.

Detective Ayers, who drew the short straw on this case, would appreciate any leads. The police department encourages those who may recognize this young stylish man to call 629-201-5660. Mountain High Outfitters, meanwhile, is left to suffer the $1,700 loss, which could be turned around if a future arrest leads to a conviction that includes restitution.
