RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - As Rutherford County’s population continues to grow, so do opportunities within its school system… Currently, more than 51,000 students are enrolled in the county schools, and new developments are opening the door for even greater flexibility for families… According to School Choice Coordinator Jeff McCann, the district’s expansion translates into more educational paths, enabling students to find schools that align with their personal interests and academic goals.

Parents hoping to place their child in a school outside of their assigned zone can participate in the open enrollment period, which will run from December 1, 2024, to January 31, 2025... During this time, families can explore various schools throughout the district and select the one they believe will best suit their child’s needs.

For those interested in magnet schools, Rutherford County offers three exceptional options: McFadden School of Excellence and Central Magnet School in Murfreesboro, along with Thurman Francis Arts Academy in Smyrna…These magnet schools provide specialized academic tracks that many parents and educators see as highly beneficial to student success.

With a growing number of schools and programs available, Rutherford County aims to provide each student with a learning environment that best supports their potential and aspirations. Click HERE for more details on magnet schools or HERE for more details on choice schools in general.
