CHATTANOOGA - Oakland High School’s football team capped off an impressive season with a commanding 42-20 victory over Houston in the Class 6A TSSAA BlueCross Bowl Championship on Saturday at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga. The WGNS Sports team of Bryan Barrett, Jon Dinkins and Rod Edwards with the call.
The win not only secured the Patriots their fourth state title in five years but also was redemption for last year’s championship loss to the Mustangs.
It's the Patriot's fifth state title under head coach Kevin Creasy, who has also led the team to seven championship appearances in his 10-years at the school. It marks the eighth state title for Oakland in school history.
The game was tied at 14 at halftime and in the third, the Patriots put up 21 unanswered and beat Houston 28-6 in the second half.
Mr. Football finalist Craig Tutt was the MVP of the game, rushing for 84-yards and a touchdown and had two key pass breakups on defense along with four tackles, one of which was for a loss. Daune Morris carried the ball 16-times for 145-yards and three touchdowns. Senior quarterback Kyler Creasy, the son of the head coach, ended his career on Patriot Drive 5-of-9 passing for 111-yards.
Oakland ended the season 14-1, have been in the football playoffs for 16-consecutive years and have now made it to the semifinal or championship game in the last 10-years straight.
